WHILE it took a bit of time to get our breath back after the success of our Top of The Hops farewell to the summer event last Saturday and if you heard Tom Thompson’s incredible version of the Britney hit, “You Sex Me Up!”, you’ll know what we mean!
But before anything turns “Toxic” you’ll also be ecstatic to know we have been focussing firmly on what makes The Allanwater Brewhouse so unique….business as usual!
On Tuesday night we were delighted to welcome back John Boyd back to The Brewhouse stage for his weekly and amazing acoustic set.
A popular local artist who at times, if you shut your eyes, can evoke comparisons with old Crazy Horse himself, Neil Young, John, pictured below, was once again at his best in this week’s midweek slot and went down almost as well as a pint of our now fabled Black Lager did on Saturday night!
Of course tomorrow our Brew of the Week Vblog will be posted elsewhere on the website and this week we are featuring our almost mythical Madras Stout!
“A beer to make you think twice! Initial complex flavours of chocolate and coffee lead into a wonderfully spicy warming finish!” said Jonathan our master brewer!!
Well the weekend is looming large and our prime time Saturday night top of the bill slot will feature our old friends and Brewhouse favourites ‘So What!”
So if you fancy a cosy evening, we might even put the fire on (honest!), serenaded by a string of household favourites delivered in a unique relaxed style by one of Central Scotland’s most established musical duos, then we’d advise you to check in at The Brewhouse just after 8pm!
But Sunday will see the start of something new at The Brewhouse with our new season First Sunday Traditional Music Group…intrigued?
Hosted by the legendary ex-Clydesider Dave Whitten, if you love traditional Scottish music come on down after 7pm this Sunday to round off your weekend in the company of folk royalty!
IT would be wrong of us at The Good Beer Buzz not to bask in the glow of a great day….just for a little time longer!
And what a day our Top of the Hops: Festival in a Day, was!
With just under 1,000 people attending over the course of the 12hours and as Brewhouse owner Douglas Ross revealed there was a real international feel to the day: “It was just a great way to end the summer and to over 900 patrons, with people coming from Germany, France, Italy, Canada, America and Japan, meant we had a real international feel to Top of The Hops throughout the day,” said Douglas
The big fella continued to wax: “In particular I think a party of 40 Scandinavians really enjoyed their chance to go a-Viking and judging by the way they got tucked into the Black Lager and Jerk chicken their forbearers would have been proud of them!
“But for me Top of The Hops proved that with a little bit of help from the weather gods we got it bang on. So the magic formula remains good food, great beer, fine music and a really friendly atmosphere, that is still what counts. But I must pay a big vote of thanks to all three of our musical acts, Matt Little, Tom Thompson and The Riverman Collective (pictured below) for their fantastic performances.
“Also to John Cullen Butchers for their stupendous sausages and to my staff for all their hard work. Now we can look forward to our next major event The St Andrew’s Day Festival on Saturday, December 1”.
